Facility Layout Design is the application of fundamentals relating to layout problems, and the basic analytical tools for solving them and it will provide an overview of the facility planning, the link between facility design and product, process, and schedule designs, types of layout designs, identifying requirements for facility layouts, developing a facility layout, and special considerations in layouts design for service enterprises. The main objective of the course is to provide the student with knowledge fundamentals relating to layout problems, and the basic analytical tools for solving them. At the successful completion of this course, students would be able to: (1) Explain the significance of layout design for an enterprise, (2) Determine the factors effecting layout design, (3) Differentiate the major types of layouts, and (4) Apply quantitative techniques that can be used to select a suitable layout design.
